Cameron Mackay - Co-leader (Focus on Fundraising and Media)

Cameron is a second year Geography student with a keen interest in exploration and scientific communication. Originally from St Andrews, he has taken many opportunities to get himself out into the wilderness. After leaving school, he got a taste of his first expedition in the Ladakh region of the Indian Himalayas with the British Exploring Society for five weeks. With a team of young people there, he trekked and climbed up to 5890 metres as well as gaining experience in scientific fieldwork. After returning from this trip, he took on the organisation of an independent expedition called Greenland360 to the West coast of Greenland, to study how the changing climate is affecting the people and landscape of the Arctic. Throughout this expedition, Cameron gained experience in managing media presence and creating educational outputs. Ol Doinyo Lengai posed a new challenge and area of fieldwork which excited Cameron and gave him the motivation to apply to join the team.

Selected as Co-Leader, he will be able to expand on his previous experience of remote travel and leadership, bringing a particular focus to the fundraising and media for Tanzania. This will involve overseeing the financial enterprising activities of the team. In the future he aims to progress into the field of expedition leading and public engagement with climate change and other environment issues through artistic projects.
